A Teacher Asked a Simple Question — Little Johnny’s Answer Had the Whole Class Laughing

I teach second grade, and last Friday we were practicing words with similar endings.

I decided to make it into a little game.

“Can anyone name something that ends in ‘tor’ and eats things?”

Brandon immediately raised his hand.

“Alligator!”

“Excellent,” I said, writing it on the board.

Another student shouted, “Predator!”

“Very good! That’s another one.”

Then Johnny, who usually spends most of class drawing dinosaurs, raised his hand.

“Refrigerator,” he said.

I smiled.

“Well, Johnny, a refrigerator doesn’t exactly eat things.”

He looked genuinely confused.

“Yes, it does.”

The class started giggling.

I decided to play along.

“Okay, explain how a refrigerator eats.”

Johnny sat up straight.

“My dad says ours eats everything. Leftover pizza, birthday cake, chicken wings, everything.”

I laughed.

“But Johnny, people are the ones eating that food.”

He shook his head.

“That’s what Mom said!”

Then he continued.

“Dad told her the refrigerator must have eaten the entire chocolate cake during the night.”

“And what did your mom say?” I asked.

Johnny grinned.

“She said, ‘Then why does the refrigerator have chocolate frosting on its mustache?’”

I stared at him.

“Your refrigerator has a mustache?”

Johnny shook his head again.

“No. My dad does.”

The entire classroom burst out laughing.

And just like that, our vocabulary lesson turned into a lesson about why you should never blame the refrigerator for your midnight snacks.
