I Showed Up to My Wedding and Nobody Was There — Then I Saw the Message My Mom Sent Everyone

I was supposed to get married on Saturday at eleven.

I’d spent almost a year planning everything. The dress, flowers, invitations, all of it.

But when I arrived at the venue, the parking lot was empty.

I called my fiancé, Matthew. No answer.

I called my mother. Nothing.

Finally, my maid of honor, Lauren, picked up.

“Seriously? After what you did, you’re calling me?”

I had absolutely no idea what she meant.

She hung up.

Twenty minutes later, Mom finally called.

“Didn’t you get my message this morning?”

She sent me a screenshot from a group chat I wasn’t included in.

Apparently, she’d told everyone the wedding was canceled because I’d confessed I didn’t want to marry Matthew.

I had never said that.

When I called her back, she admitted she’d sent the message herself.

She said she’d been worried I was rushing into marriage and thought stopping the ceremony would give me time to reconsider.

I couldn’t believe it.

I immediately called Matthew’s brother and explained everything.

An hour later, Matthew arrived at the venue.

He’d spent the morning believing I’d left him.

We didn’t get married that day.

But we didn’t break up either.

Three weeks later, we had a small ceremony with twelve people.

My mother wasn’t invited.

She’d wanted to stop me from making a mistake. Instead, she nearly destroyed the best relationship I’d ever had.
