My Parents Kept This Strange Wedding Gift for Decades — Then Someone Finally Identified It

My parents have been married for more than thirty years, and tucked away in one of their cabinets was a strange object they received as a wedding gift.
Neither of them ever knew what it was.
Over the years, they moved it from drawer to drawer, then from one house to another. Every so often, someone would pick it up, examine it, and make a guess.
A kitchen tool?
Something for sewing?
Maybe part of an old serving set?
Nothing seemed to make sense.
Recently, while cleaning out their storage, Dad held it up and said, “If we don’t figure this out today, it’s going in the trash.”

I convinced him to wait.
I took a photo and posted it online, asking if anyone recognized it.
For the first hour, the replies were mostly jokes and wild guesses.
Then an older woman commented with complete confidence.
She said it was a vintage butter curler and serving tool, commonly included in formal kitchen sets decades ago.
I showed the answer to my parents.
Mom stared at the object and burst out laughing.
“All these years,” she said, “and I thought it was some kind of broken can opener.”
Dad immediately changed his mind about throwing it away.
Now it sits in their kitchen display cabinet with a tiny handwritten label underneath:
“Finally identified after 34 years.”
