My Fiancé Vanished on Our Wedding Day — Hours Later, His Mother Came Crying With an Envelope
I was supposed to marry my fiancé, Ryan, on Saturday.
We’d been together for almost five years. Everything was ready, and sixty guests were expecting us.
But Ryan never arrived.
I called him repeatedly. His phone went straight to voicemail.
His brother went to his apartment. Nobody was there.
By two that afternoon, we canceled the wedding.
I went home, still wearing my dress, and cried on the bathroom floor.
Around seven, someone knocked.
It was Ryan’s mother, Carol.
She was crying and carrying a large envelope.
“Please sit down,” she said.
Inside were bank statements and letters from a collection agency.
Then Carol explained.
**Ryan had been arrested that morning in connection with a financial fraud investigation.**
She’d received a call from the police earlier that afternoon.
While searching his apartment for his identification documents, she’d discovered the envelope.
One statement showed a $24,000 loan.
The borrower was me.
Except I’d never applied for any loan.
Ryan had apparently used my personal information and forged my signature months earlier.
I immediately checked my credit report and contacted the lender.
Carol sat beside me, apologizing through tears.
I didn’t know what to say.
The following week, I filed a formal identity theft report and started working with an attorney.
Ryan eventually tried contacting me.
I didn’t answer.
**I’d spent five years trusting someone who’d been secretly putting my financial future at risk.**
And finding out on our wedding day was something I never imagined.
