I Invited a Young Teacher to Meet My Single Grandson — Then He Revealed Who She Really Was
I’ve been raising my grandson, Nathan, since he was five.
He’s 27 now, has a good job, and rarely goes out. Whenever I ask about dating, he just laughs and changes the subject.
I work at a preschool, and last year a young teacher named Allison joined our staff.
She was kind, hardworking, and easy to talk to.
I thought she’d be perfect for Nathan.
So I invited her over for dinner without telling either of them why.
When Nathan walked into the dining room, he stopped.
“Allison?”
She looked just as surprised.
“Nathan? You’re her grandson?”
I smiled.
“Oh, you two already know each other?”
Nathan looked at me.
“Grandma, she’s the reason I almost dropped out of high school.”
I couldn’t believe it.
Then he explained.
When Nathan was sixteen, someone had spread a cruel rumor about his parents abandoning him.
The whole school knew.
He’d been embarrassed for months.
Allison was the girl who started it.
She immediately began apologizing.
She admitted she’d been immature and had regretted what she’d done for years.
Nathan listened quietly.
Then he said, “I’m glad you’ve changed. But that doesn’t mean I want to date you.”
Allison understood.
After she left, I apologized to Nathan for arranging the dinner without asking him.
He hugged me.
“Grandma, I know you mean well. But please let me choose who I bring home.”
**And for once, I decided to stop playing matchmaker.**
