My Daughter Brought Home a Pale, Tattooed Goth Boy, and My Husband Immediately Told Him to Leave – Then the Boy Placed His Phone on the Table, and My Husband Went Even Paler

My eighteen-year-old daughter, Maya, had never brought a boyfriend home. So when she arrived with Evan—a pale boy with tattoos, eyeliner, and black nails—I expected an awkward dinner.
Instead, my husband Daniel jumped up.
“Get out,” he told Evan.
Maya was furious. Daniel had always taught her not to judge appearances, yet he looked terrified.
Evan quietly placed his phone on the table. On the screen was an old photo of Daniel standing beside a pregnant blonde woman.
“That’s my mother, Claire,” Evan said.
I thought Evan was Daniel’s secret son. He wasn’t.
Daniel explained that Claire had dated his old friend Mark. When Mark became controlling, emptied their shared account, and made leaving nearly impossible, Daniel secretly helped pregnant Claire escape.
Evan had found the photo after Claire died. He wanted answers.
Then Daniel glanced at the clock.
“Mark’s coming here tonight.”
Before anyone could react, the doorbell rang.
Mark walked in, recognized Evan, and froze. Evan was his son.
Mark accused Daniel of stealing his family, but Daniel finally stood firm.
“Claire wanted to leave. I helped her. And I’d do it again.”
When Mark demanded a relationship, Evan shook his head. “I already have a dad.”
Daniel showed Mark out and ended their friendship.
Then Evan looked at him.
“My mom trusted you. Now I know why.”
