My Fiancé Disappeared on Our Wedding Day — Three Months Later, He Called and Finally Told Me Why

I was 28 when my fiancé, Nathan, disappeared on our wedding day.

We’d been together for four years. We’d planned everything, paid the deposits, and invited almost 100 guests.

The night before, he kissed me goodbye and said he’d see me at the altar.

But the next morning, he was gone.

His phone was switched off. His car wasn’t at his apartment. Even his parents had no idea where he was.

We canceled the wedding.

I spent weeks trying to understand what had happened.

Eventually, I stopped calling.

Three months later, my phone rang.

It was Nathan.

I almost ignored him, but curiosity got the better of me.

“Where have you been?” I asked.

He started crying.

Then he admitted something he’d hidden throughout our relationship.

**He’d been struggling with alcohol addiction and had relapsed the night before our wedding.**

Instead of facing me, he’d panicked, contacted an old friend from recovery, and entered a residential treatment program.

He’d been too ashamed to tell anyone.

“I thought getting help would somehow make everything okay,” he said.

I listened quietly.

Then I told him I was glad he’d gotten treatment.

But disappearing without a word had hurt me deeply.

He asked whether we could start again.

I told him I needed time.

**I still loved the man I’d planned to marry. But I didn’t know if I could trust him anymore.**
