My 4-Year-Old Mentioned Her “Other Mom” — Then I Checked the Nanny Cam

My daughter, Sophie, was coloring at the kitchen table when she casually asked, “Mommy, will you cry when I go to the beach with Daddy and my other mom?”
I thought I had misheard her.
“What other mom?”
She looked confused by my question.
“Mom Lizzie. She says you’re the mean mom and she’s the nice one.”
My stomach dropped.
Then Sophie added, “She comes here when you’re gone.”
I didn’t want to frighten her, so I stayed calm, packed an overnight bag, and took her to my mother’s house.
Once we were safely there, I remembered the small nanny camera hidden on our bookshelf.
I opened the app.
At first, the living room was empty.
Then my husband walked into view.
A woman followed him.
It was Lizzie—my younger cousin.
She had been at our house dozens of times and had even babysat Sophie before.
I watched them sit together on the couch, laughing like they belonged there.
Then I heard my husband mention the beach trip.
That was enough.
I saved the footage.
When I confronted him later, he tried to claim Lizzie was “just helping with Sophie.”
But my daughter’s words and the recording told a different story.
I didn’t scream.
I simply told him Sophie and I would be staying elsewhere.
The worst part wasn’t discovering the betrayal.
It was realizing they had involved my four-year-old deeply enough that she thought this secret relationship was normal.
