My Mother Rejected Me When My Children and I Were Without a Home—Five Weeks Later, I Discovered the Painful Reality
At 24, I lost my job and found myself sleeping in my car with my two young children. In desperation, I knocked on my mother's door.
"Please, Mom. We have nowhere else to turn."
She appeared worn out. After a lengthy pause, she murmured, "My boyfriend won't allow you to stay."
I was heartbroken. "Then forget me," I replied, turning away.
For weeks, she reached out through calls and texts, pleading for me to come over. I ignored every single message. I couldn't bring myself to forgive her for shutting us out.
Five weeks later, I received the heartbreaking news. My mother had passed away due to a heart condition.
At her funeral, her boyfriend gave me an old fabric bag with my name embroidered on it.
"She wanted you to have this."
Inside were crocheted blankets, tiny sweaters, and hats, each marked with my children's names. Underneath them were handwritten letters.
Mom had been gravely ill. She shared that she had only weeks to live and wished for her grandchildren to remember her fondly, not in pain.
She wanted them to recall joyful moments.
I broke down, realizing I had spent her last weeks ignoring her calls.
Now I wrap my children in those blankets and share with them the depth of their grandmother's love.
Every night, I whisper, "I'm sorry, Mom. I wish I had listened."
