My Stepdaughters Hid My Daughter’s Passport So She’d Babysit — Then the Kids Revealed Everything

My daughter Kya is eighteen. My stepdaughters, Tasha and Denise, are both single mothers and live with us with their children.

For a while, Kya babysat for them to earn extra money.

Then they slowly stopped paying her.

So Kya stopped babysitting.

When I planned a family vacation, Tasha and Denise immediately assumed Kya would stay home with their kids.

I told them absolutely not.

Kya was part of the family, and she was coming with us.

The morning we were supposed to leave, Kya suddenly couldn’t find her passport.

We searched everywhere.

Strangely, Tasha kept saying, “Maybe you should just leave her here. We’ll miss the flight.”

I refused.

Finally, after nearly an hour, Denise broke down and admitted they had hidden the passport because they wanted Kya to stay behind with the children.

I was furious.

I told everyone the trip was canceled.

Then Kya grabbed my arm.

“Dad, look at the kids.”

All four children were standing near the stairs with tiny backpacks.

The oldest quietly said, “Mom told us Aunt Kya didn’t want us on vacation.”

Kya’s face fell.

She knelt and hugged them.

That was when I realized this had stopped being about babysitting.

The kids were being dragged into an adult argument.

We found the passport, changed the sleeping arrangements, and everyone went on the trip.

But afterward, one rule became permanent:

Kya was their sister—not their unpaid nanny.
