Delivery Driver Thought His Customer Wasn’t Home – She Saw What He Was Doing with Her Order and Rushed Outside

I told my delivery driver I wasn’t home, even though I was sitting in pajamas ten feet from the door.

I’d had a miserable day and didn’t want anyone seeing my acne cream. So I asked him to leave my Chinese food outside.

When his car arrived during a thunderstorm, I watched through the window to make sure my food wasn’t stolen.

But he walked to the wrong house.

After I called to correct him, he stopped under my neighbor’s porch and opened my order. Was he touching my food?

Then I looked closer.

Rain had soaked the paper bag. He removed each sealed container, dried it with paper towels, and repacked everything in a clean reusable bag.

Then he took off his jacket and held it over my dinner before stepping into the rain.

I ran outside barefoot.

“I saw what you did,” I told him.

His name was Luis. He explained that he carried spare bags because customers deserved to receive their food intact.

I confessed I’d been home all along, added a $20 tip, and left a five-star review.

A week later, I ran into him at the restaurant. He thanked me for the review, explaining that complaints about storm delays had hurt his ratings.

I’d nearly judged him unfairly.

Sometimes kindness happens when nobody thinks anyone is watching.
