I Married a Terminally Ill Single Father After He Begged Me to Raise His Little Daughter When He Was Gone – A Year Later, She Handed Me a Box and Said, ‘Dad Asked Me to Give You This Today’

After losing my husband and daughter Josie in a car accident, I believed I’d never be a mother again. One detail haunted me: Josie’s beloved stuffed rabbit had vanished.

Years later, while working at a hospital, I met Daniel, a terminally ill widower, and his six-year-old daughter, Lily. I began braiding Lily’s hair, helping with homework, and comforting her during her father’s treatments.

When Daniel asked me to marry him so Lily would have a mother after he died, I said yes.

A year after his death, Lily handed me a box he’d hidden.

Inside was Josie’s missing rabbit.

Daniel’s letter revealed he’d stopped at the accident, comforted Josie during her final moments, and promised to return her toy to me. But he’d been too afraid to approach me at the funeral—and even after recognizing me in the hospital, he’d kept silent.

I felt betrayed. Worse, he’d made Lily deliver the truth.

“Are you going to leave me?” she whispered.

“Never,” I promised.

Then Lily revealed something else.

“Daddy didn’t choose you. I did.”

She explained that she’d asked Daniel whether having me around was what having a mother felt like. She’d wanted me to stay.

I still couldn’t forgive Daniel’s secrecy. But I held Lily close and told her about Josie.

At last, Mr. Bunny was home.
