Everyone Ignored Grandma’s Request for Money — Then I Found Out Why She Needed It

My grandmother was 68 when she sent a message in our family group chat asking if anyone could lend her some money.
Nobody replied.
Some relatives later said they assumed someone else would help. Others thought she was probably asking for something unnecessary.
I couldn’t stop thinking about it.
Two days later, I called her privately and sent her the amount she needed.
She thanked me several times but refused to explain what it was for.
That night, she passed away unexpectedly in her sleep.
The next morning, I went to her house with my mother.
While we were sorting through some things, I noticed a shopping receipt on the kitchen table.
The amount matched exactly what I had sent her.
But she hadn’t bought groceries, medicine, or anything for herself.
She had ordered small personalized gifts for every one of her grandchildren.
Beside the receipt was a handwritten list of our names and short messages she wanted attached to each gift.
Mine said:
“Thank you for answering when I needed someone.”
I had to sit down.
She had known money was tight, yet the last thing she chose to spend it on was us.
Weeks later, the packages arrived.
Every grandchild received one.
Some of the same people who had ignored her message cried when they opened theirs.
I still keep mine beside her photo.
It reminds me that sometimes the smallest response can mean more than we ever realize.
