During a morning walk with his daughter, longtime Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak was suddenly struck by severe abdominal pain. He was rushed to the hospital, where doctors discovered an intestinal blockage requiring emergency surgery.
The pain was so intense that regular medication offered little relief. After receiving a powerful sedative, Sajak entered a vivid, peaceful state filled with bright colors. Hearing his wife and daughter’s distant voices, he briefly believed he was dying.
When he woke after the successful operation, he realized the strange experience was caused by the medication. Later, he joked during an interview, “I was merely high.”
Doctors confirmed the blockage was an isolated incident with no serious underlying condition. Within weeks, Sajak felt terrific and returned to work.
He also joked that Vanna White, who hosted during his absence, enjoyed the role so much that he had to protect his job.
