He Left Everything to My Sister—Then I Found the Hidden Note

My grandfather, whom I was extremely close to, died last week. At the reading of his will, I was devastated to learn that everything had been left to my sister, even though she had rarely visited him.
Thinking it might be a mistake, I asked her to share the inheritance.
“Sorry,” she replied. “I can’t go against Grandpa’s wishes.”
The next evening, I discovered a folded note inside the pocket of an old coat Grandpa and I had once repaired together.
“My dear grandchild,” it began, “I didn’t include you in the will because I never wanted your love to be measured by money. You were always there for me because you cared.”
The note instructed me to look beneath a loose floorboard in his study.
The following morning, I went to his house and found a wooden box. Inside was a notebook titled Our Stories, filled with memories of our walks, Sunday breakfasts, conversations, and the day we repaired the coat.
There was also another letter explaining that Grandpa had opened a savings account in my name.
“Use it wisely, live kindly, and never allow bitterness to take root,” he wrote. “Your heart is your greatest gift.”
Holding the notebook close, I realized he had left me something more meaningful than wealth.
He had trusted my character.
My anger disappeared, replaced by gratitude. Love—not money—was the inheritance I would carry forward.
