I Trailed My Husband at 3 A.M.—And Witnessed the End of My Marriage

After twenty-two years of marriage, my husband suddenly developed a strange habit: taking out the trash at three o’clock every morning. He had never volunteered for that chore before, so his new enthusiasm immediately raised my suspicions.
At first, I tried to ignore it. But every night he disappeared from our bed, returning minutes later with the same casual explanation. Something didn’t feel right.
One night, I followed him.
From my window, I watched him walk across the street to our newly divorced neighbor Betty’s house. Moments later, she opened the door, wrapped her arms around him, and kissed him. In an instant, everything I believed about my marriage shattered.
For a week, I secretly recorded their late-night meetings. Every video confirmed the truth I didn’t want to face. While I was sleeping, my husband was carrying on an affair right across the street.
Instead of confronting him immediately, I contacted a divorce lawyer and gathered the evidence I needed. Weeks later, I handed him divorce papers over breakfast and showed him the recordings.
The excuses came quickly, but I was done listening.
The divorce was finalized, and Dave moved in with Betty. Ironically, their relationship didn’t last long. A few weeks later, she left him for someone else.
Today, I live alone in the house we once shared. Some days are quieter than before, but they’re also peaceful. I no longer wonder where my husband is or whether he’s telling the truth.
Sometimes, taking out the trash means removing what no longer belongs in your life.
