Unlike many restaurant chains that shifted to takeout and delivery services, the company’s parent organization, CraftWorks Holdings, chose to furlough employees and suspend their healthcare benefits, leaving thousands without income or coverage during a critical time.
The controversy deepened when then-CEO Hazem Ouf was dismissed after allegations that he redirected approximately $7 million in sales tax payments without court approval. Reports claimed the unauthorized financial decisions contributed to growing concerns over the company’s management and financial stability.
Just days after Ouf’s firing, CraftWorks announced it would effectively “mothball” all 261 Logan’s Roadhouse locations, saying it lacked the funds needed to continue operations. The move sparked criticism from employees and the public, many of whom questioned the company’s handling of both its finances and its workforce during an already difficult economic period.
The closures marked one of the most significant setbacks for the casual dining chain, highlighting the severe challenges faced by the restaurant industry.
