The Forgotten PIN I Recovered By Accident

I had a bank card I kept for emergencies, but one day I realized I had completely forgotten the PIN. I went to an ATM and tried two different numbers I thought might be right, but both failed. Not wanting to risk locking the card, I stopped before the third attempt and walked away frustrated.
The card didn’t charge maintenance fees, but replacing it would have cost a lot, so I just kept it tucked away and hoped I’d somehow remember the code someday.
Months passed without any luck.
Then one evening, about six months later, I went to visit some friends. When I arrived outside their apartment building, I called them so they could let me in. They gave me the intercom code over the phone, and the second I heard the first few digits, something clicked in my mind.
It was my bank card PIN.
The numbers matched the beginning of the building code, and somehow that random moment unlocked the memory I’d been trying to recover for months. I couldn’t believe it.
Ever since then, I’ve never worried about forgetting the PIN again. If I ever blank out, I know I can simply call my friends and hear the same numbers that accidentally brought my memory back.
