I Refuse to Let My MIL See My Kids After She Crossed a Serious Line

My mother-in-law is retired and visits our home almost every weekend. Since my husband and I both work full-time, I once asked if she could occasionally help by cooking for the kids. She immediately snapped, “Do I look like a free nanny? Pay me if you want childcare.”
I was hurt and frustrated, so I told her maybe she shouldn’t come over anymore.
A few days later, I got a phone call from my 7-year-old crying hysterically. I rushed home expecting an emergency, but what I found completely shocked me.
The kitchen looked destroyed. Food wrappers everywhere, spilled snacks on the table, the pantry torn apart, and most of the groceries I’d just bought for the week were gone. My kids looked confused and overwhelmed.
My son explained that Grandma had stopped by while I was at work. She told them that no matter what I said, she was still their grandmother. Then, according to him, she started taking groceries and said she was “teaching me a lesson.”
My children were left trying to figure out how to make food from whatever was left behind.
I’m furious, but also deeply unsettled. This wasn’t just a disagreement between adults anymore — my kids were dragged into it.
Now my husband says she “didn’t mean harm,” but I honestly don’t know how to trust her around my children after this.
