My MIL Ordered Me a Dress Four Sizes Too Small for Her Party, Saying, ‘It’s Time for You to Lose Weight’ – Karma Didn’t Take Long to Catch up with Her

My MIL, Clara, ordered me a dress four sizes too small for her 40th anniversary party. When I told her it wouldn’t fit, she laughed and said, “It’s time for you to lose weight.” I had given birth only three months earlier.

My husband, Simon, was furious and helped me buy a comfortable blue dress instead.

At the party, Clara immediately criticized it, calling it cheap and saying her son deserved “a more attractive woman.” Humiliated, I escaped to the restroom, where I overheard two women discussing dresses Clara had also altered because she disliked how their bodies photographed.

Then chaos erupted outside.

A boutique coordinator arrived with several dresses Clara had ordered but hadn’t fully paid for. Clara refused to return them, forcing the restaurant manager to call police.

The boutique records revealed something worse: Clara had originally provided my correct size, then deliberately changed it to four sizes smaller with the instruction: “DO NOT SUBSTITUTE LARGER.”

She had also created a seating chart for the family photo. Beside my name was written: “BACK EDGE. SIMON FRONT.”

Simon finally confronted her.

“Were you trying to make Jennifer lose weight… or disappear?”

He told Clara that if she ever insulted or controlled me again, we wouldn’t attend her parties.

For once, Clara had nothing to say.
