My Son Abandoned His Child — Years Later, I Showed Up at His Wedding With the Boy He Left Behind

My son, Daniel, changed the day his first child was born.
His wife, Rachel, gave birth to a beautiful boy named Tommy, who happened to have Down syndrome.
Instead of supporting his family, Daniel pulled away.
Within months, he left Rachel and eventually stopped helping financially.
When I told him I couldn’t support what he was doing, he stopped speaking to me too.
So I stayed close to Rachel and Tommy.
Years passed.
Then my nephew casually mentioned that Daniel was getting married again.
I wasn’t invited.
Still, I learned the date and location.
I debated staying away, but Tommy had recently started asking questions about his father.
So on the wedding day, I took him with me.
We didn’t storm inside or create a scene.
We simply waited outside after the ceremony.
When Daniel walked out and saw us, he froze.
Tommy smiled, reached into his pocket, and handed him a folded piece of paper.
It was a drawing of three people holding hands.
Underneath, he had written:
“Me, Dad, and Grandma.”
Daniel stared at it for a long time.
Then Tommy asked, “Do you remember me?”
Nobody around us said a word.
Daniel’s eyes filled with tears.
I didn’t go there to ruin his wedding.
I went because a child deserved to know he had never been the one who should feel ashamed.
