A Father Started Charging His 18-Year-Old Son $250 a Month for His Room – Five Years Later, the Young Man Received a Box That Turned His Life Upside Down

For five years, my father charged me $250 monthly rent while I struggled to survive. I thought he cared more about money than his own son.
After Mom died when I was nine, Dad stopped playing guitar, worked endless shifts, and barely spoke to me.
When I turned eighteen, he demanded rent. He also discouraged my dream of becoming a musician.
“Music doesn’t pay the bills,” he insisted.
Our relationship slowly fell apart.
Then Dad died of cancer.
After his funeral, his best friend Frank delivered a mysterious box containing old band photographs and a key.
The key led me to a fully equipped recording studio.
Inside, I discovered my childhood guitar, carefully repaired, and a video Dad had recorded before dying.
“I’m sorry,” he whispered through the screen. “I spent so much time teaching you responsibility that I forgot to help you find happiness.”
He explained that the studio was mine. His former bandmates would help me pursue music.
Then he mentioned a drawer.
Inside were sixty envelopes containing every rent payment I’d made.
$15,000.
A handwritten note read:
“You earned every dollar. Don’t waste your chance like I wasted mine.”
I collapsed into tears.
My father had secretly saved every penny for my future.
But all I wanted was one more chance to tell him I loved him.
