A Woman’s Husband Forgot His Medication, so She Decided to Drop It off at His Office – But the Receptionist Looked Confused and Said, ‘Ma’am, Your Husband’s Been on Leave for a Week’

My husband left for work every morning as usual. But when I visited his office with medication he’d forgotten, the receptionist revealed he’d been on leave all week. The next morning, I followed him—and discovered something unexpected.

For eleven years, I’d trusted Eliam completely.

So when he texted that work was hectic, despite not being there, I feared the worst.

The following morning, I followed his car across town.

Instead of heading to his office, he stopped outside an adult learning center.

Then I saw him with Frank, our elderly former neighbor.

Frank’s wife had died two years earlier, and we hadn’t seen him since.

Inside, Eliam patiently helped Frank practice reading.

That evening, I confronted my husband.

He admitted taking vacation days to accompany Frank to literacy classes.

“But why lie to me?”

“Frank was embarrassed. I promised to keep his secret.”

Later, Frank called and explained everything.

His grandson had given him a birthday card, but Frank couldn’t read the handwritten message.

For months, he’d kept it hidden in a drawer.

The next day, Frank invited me to his class.

With trembling hands, he opened the card and slowly read:

“You’re my best buddy.”

Tears filled his eyes.

Then he looked at my husband.

“Everyone always reads things for me. Eliam was the first person patient enough to let me learn.”

My husband apologized for lying. But I understood why Frank trusted him.
