My Boyfriend of 9 Years Said He’d Put a Ring on My Finger When I Acted like Wife Material – I Didn’t Argue, but the Next Morning, He Stared and Murmured, ‘You… You Can’t Do This to Me!’

On my 30th birthday, I found a jewelry box in my boyfriend Simon’s pocket and thought nine years of waiting were finally over.

Instead, the box held earrings.

That night, I finally asked if he ever planned to marry me.

His answer stunned me.

“I’ll put a ring on your finger when you start acting like wife material.”

The next day, I found something even worse: a handwritten list rating me.

Cooking: 7/10.
Cleaning: 9/10.
Appearance: 8/10.
In bed: 6/10.

At the bottom: Wife material — 7.2/10.

That same day, Simon’s parents surprised us with tickets to Las Vegas.

I packed my suitcase, put on a white dress, and called my cousin Ryan.

When Simon came home, I told him I was going to Vegas to decide whether he was husband material.

He followed me there.

When he saw Ryan beside me, he assumed the worst and punched him.

“That’s my cousin!” I yelled.

Simon finally broke down.

He admitted he had spent years judging whether I was good enough for him without ever asking if he was good enough for me.

Then he pulled out a ring and proposed.

For nine years, I had dreamed of that moment.

But I said no.

“I thought I needed you to realize I was wife material,” I told him. “Turns out I needed to realize you weren’t husband material.”

The next morning, Ethan—the stranger I’d met at the airport—messaged me.

This time, when he asked for my number, I said yes.
