Donald Trump sparked a tense moment during a press briefing after joking that his press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, was doing a “terrible job.”
Trump was criticizing what he described as overwhelmingly negative media coverage, claiming that between 93 and 97 percent of reporting about him was unfavorable.
Turning toward Leavitt, he joked, “Maybe Karoline’s doing a poor job,” before adding, “You’re doing a terrible job.”
The remark briefly raised eyebrows, but Trump quickly made clear he was not seriously criticizing her. He then asked, “Should we keep her?” before answering, “I think we’ll keep her.”
Trump continued attacking major media outlets, accusing them of unfair and politically biased coverage.
The exchange highlighted his often unscripted communication style and long-running conflict with the press, while Leavitt once again found herself at the center of a headline-making White House moment.
