I Refuse to Let My Homeless Stepdaughter Move In, This Is Not an Affordable Housing

After losing her job, my 24-year-old stepdaughter asked to move back in with her baby. She’s a single mom and said she could only contribute $200 a month toward expenses.

I refused.

At 52, I value peace and quiet more than anything. I spent decades working hard so I could finally enjoy a calm home, not a house filled with stress, noise, and sleepless nights. I told her this wasn’t “affordable housing,” and that as an adult, she needed to learn how to handle her struggles without depending on us financially.

I knew my husband was upset, but I thought he just needed time to cool down.

Instead, the next day I walked in and saw his suitcase packed by the door.

He told me he had rented a temporary place for his daughter and grandchild — and he was moving in with them. Then he looked me in the eye and said something that shattered me:

“You forgot this is my house, and it belongs to my daughter more than it belongs to you. If anyone should leave, it’s you.”

Now, after 17 years of marriage, he’s asking me to move out over this disagreement.

I wanted to protect the peace of my home… but now I’m wondering if I destroyed my marriage instead.
