Parents Stunned by Baby’s Ear-to-Ear Smile – The Shocking Diagnosis That Left Everyone Speechless
Ayla Summer Mucha was born on December 30, 2021, in Australia to parents Cristina Vercher and Blaize Mucha. The newborn surprised everyone with an unusually wide, permanent smile caused by bilateral macrostomia — an extremely rare condition (only 14 known cases worldwide) where the corners of the mouth don’t fully fuse during pregnancy.
No ultrasound had detected it, so the diagnosis came as a shock during the C-section. Doctors and staff were also unfamiliar with the condition, leaving the young parents anxious and initially blaming themselves.
After genetic tests confirmed nothing they did caused it, the couple embraced their daughter’s unique appearance. They began sharing Ayla’s story on TikTok, where her joyful grin quickly went viral, amassing millions of followers and overwhelming positive support.
Ayla has since had surgery (with minimal visible scarring) to correct the macrostomia and improve mouth function. Now a happy 3-year-old (as of late 2024) and big sister to brother Sonny (born Nov 2023), she continues to charm the internet with her infectious smile. Her parents say they’ve never been prouder. ❤️
