Fired on Friday, Rehired the Next Week

During my vacation, I accidentally stayed at the same hotel as my boss. We didn’t speak. We didn’t even acknowledge each other.

When I returned, he fired me.

The reason? I wasn’t “sociable enough.”

It sounded ridiculous—I’d been a reliable, high-performing employee. But a coworker later whispered the truth:
“He was there with other women. His wife checks everything. He probably thought you’d tell.”

So that was it. I knew too much.

I didn’t confront him. Instead, I sent his wife photos—him with multiple women by the pool, at the bar, even the elevator lobby. No explanation. Just proof.

A week later, his wife called.

She thanked me. Then told me she’d confronted him, filed for divorce, and discovered he’d been hiding money. Finally, she asked to meet.

Over coffee, she handed me a check—more than I’d earned in six months. “Compensation,” she said. Then she surprised me again.

She offered me a job at her consulting firm.

“I’m not hiring you for revenge,” she said. “I’m hiring you for integrity.”

I accepted.

On my first day, I walked into the office and froze.

My ex-boss was there—applying for a job.

When he saw me, his face drained. Before he could speak, his ex-wife stepped in, dismissed him on the spot, and had him escorted out.

She turned to me and smiled.

“Ready to start your real career?”

Oh, I was very ready.
