My Dad Invited My Brother and Me to His Wedding to the Woman He Cheated on Our Mom With – He Had No Idea He’d Regret It Soon

My dad left my mom for Dana, his affair partner, after 22 years. Mom found them together on the couch; she dropped a potted plant and shattered along with it. Dad moved out three weeks later. My gentle 12-year-old brother Owen watched Mom waste away, crying over coffee mugs and Tupperware lids.

A year later, Dad invited us to his backyard wedding with Dana. Relatives guilt-tripped us into going. Owen, suddenly calm, asked me to order itching powder on Amazon. I had a strong suspicion but clicked “buy” anyway.

At the ceremony, Owen sweetly offered to hang Dana’s white wedding jacket. Five minutes later he returned empty-handed. During vows, Dana started twitching, then frantically scratching. Her skin turned fire-engine red. She fled mid-ceremony, returned 15 minutes later in a random beige dress, hair wrecked, makeup ruined. The “I dos” were rushed and mortifying.

Dad and Dana’s family now call us evil and refuse to speak to us. They say we destroyed their perfect day.

Owen’s only comment on the ride home: “She didn’t cry, but she’ll never forget feeling humiliated—just like Mom never forgets walking in on them.”

I could have stopped him. I didn’t. I’m not sorry. Am I wrong? Maybe. But I’m not apologizing either.
