A Man’s Daughter Made Him a Paper Tie for Father’s Day and Said, ‘Wear It to My Wedding’ – 26 Years Later, He Wore It to Her Funeral and Found Something Hidden Inside

I raised my daughter, Ashley, alone from the time she was two. When she was six, she made me a crooked blue paper tie covered in red hearts for Father’s Day.
“Promise you’ll wear it at my wedding,” she said.
I promised and kept it for 26 years.
A month before her wedding, Ashley borrowed the tie to “fix it up.” She returned it with a reinforced backing and told me not to peek at her surprise.
Three days later, she died in a car accident.
At her funeral, I couldn’t bring myself to wear a black tie. I wore hers instead. As I sat beside her coffin, I felt something hidden in the paper. Inside was a photograph of Ashley with a little girl and a letter meant for her wedding day.
The girl was Hayden, six years old. Ashley and her fiancé, Antonio, had secretly adopted her. Ashley had planned to introduce me to my granddaughter at the reception.
In her letter, she thanked me for raising her and asked me to be there for Hayden, too.
I met Hayden the following Saturday. She hugged me and asked, “Are you really my grandpa?”
Eight months later, she made me a green paper tie for Father’s Day.
“Wear it forever,” she said.
And I will.
