I Believed My Husband and Son Were at Football Practice Every Friday — Until the Truth Came to Light

For six months, my husband Derek and our 13-year-old son Harry left every Friday for “football practice.” They returned exhausted, with muddy shoes and stories about drills. I believed them—until I drove to the stadium with homemade cookies and found it completely empty.
The following Friday, I followed their car. Instead of the football field, they stopped at an office building, where a woman welcomed them with hugs. Then the three went to an amusement park, laughing and holding hands like a family.
I confronted Derek that night. Her name was Josie, a woman from his past. Harry had met her months earlier and grown close to her. Rather than tell me, Derek had built six months of lies.
Our marriage ended. What hurt most was Harry choosing to live with Derek and Josie. I spent months wondering how the two people I loved most could leave me behind.
A year later, I had slowly rebuilt my life. I was in a loving relationship and expecting a baby when someone knocked on my door.
It was Harry, crying. Life with Derek and Josie wasn’t what he’d imagined. He apologized and asked whether he could come home.
I hugged him tightly.
“You never stopped having a home with me,” I whispered.
Our family had changed forever, but my love for my son hadn’t.
