I Caught My Husband With the Nanny — Then the Agency Told Me the Truth

I came home early one afternoon and immediately knew something was wrong.
My husband and our nanny were sitting together on the couch, much closer than normal. The second they noticed me, both of them stood up and started acting strangely.
I didn’t say much in the moment.
That night, after the kids were asleep, I confronted him.
At first, he denied everything.
Then he finally admitted he had been “seeing” her for a while.
I felt sick.
The next morning, I called the childcare agency because I wanted to report what had happened and make sure she was removed from our account.
The woman on the phone pulled up our records.
Then she went quiet.
“Ma’am,” she said, “she hasn’t worked through us for months.”
I thought there had to be a mistake.
Then she explained that my husband had ended the agency contract and hired the nanny privately without telling me.
That meant the extra payments I had noticed coming out of our account weren’t agency fees like he claimed.
He had been paying her directly.
Suddenly, several things made sense.
The schedule changes.
The unexplained withdrawals.
The weekends he said I didn’t need to be home because “the nanny had everything covered.”
When I confronted him again, there was nothing left to explain away.
The affair hurt.
But realizing how carefully he had arranged the deception hurt even more.
By the end of that week, the nanny was gone.
Not long after, so was he.
