I Used Grandma’s Pull-Out Kitchen Board for Chopping — Her Reaction Left Me Speechless

My husband and I were staying with his grandparents for a few days, and one afternoon I offered to help prepare dinner.
While looking for a cutting board, I noticed a wooden board that slid neatly out from underneath one of the kitchen cabinets.
It looked exactly like a built-in cutting board.
So I washed some vegetables, placed them on it, and started chopping.
A minute later, his grandmother walked into the kitchen.
Her face changed instantly.
“What are you doing?” she shouted.
I froze.
She rushed over, removed everything from the board, and told me never to cut food on it again.
I apologized and explained that I honestly thought that was what it was made for.
She only said, “That board has another purpose,” then pushed it back into the cabinet.
For the rest of dinner, she barely spoke.
Later, I asked my husband what I had done wrong.
He smiled sadly.
That pull-out board had belonged to his grandmother’s mother. For decades, they had used it only for kneading bread dough and preparing family recipes.
His grandmother still followed the same tradition.
The knife marks I had made weren’t serious, but to her, that board carried generations of memories.
The next morning, I apologized again.
This time she hugged me.
Then she pulled the board out and said, “Come here. I’ll show you what it’s really for.”
