The Grandchild I Thought I Had… Was a Lie

At 62, I believed I had one son and three grandchildren. That belief was shattered when I discovered that my oldest granddaughter, now 14, was not biologically related to me. My daughter-in-law had been pregnant by another man before marrying my son, and what hurt most was learning that my son had known the truth all along.
Feeling betrayed, I contacted my lawyer and removed my granddaughter from my will. I told my son that she wasn’t family and wouldn’t inherit anything from me. He listened quietly and said very little.
Later that evening, my lawyer called with unexpected news. My son had requested that his two younger children—my biological grandchildren—also be removed from my will. He stated that neither he nor any of the children wanted my money.
Shocked and heartbroken, I tried reaching him, but he ignored my calls. A few days later, he invited me to a family dinner, and I hoped it was an opportunity to make peace.
Instead, he calmly announced that he no longer wanted me involved in his children’s lives.
“My family comes as a package,” he said. “If my oldest daughter isn’t your family, then neither are the others.”
I left in tears, devastated by what had happened. I felt betrayed by years of secrecy and crushed by the possibility of losing all three grandchildren. Now, I’m left wondering whether our relationship can ever be repaired after so much pain and division.
