After a long day at work, I came home expecting nothing more than a quiet evening. The apartment looked normal, the TV was softly playing, and my boyfriend Matt was asleep on the couch — unusual, but not alarming.
Still, something felt… wrong.
Trying to shake off the feeling, I went to the bathroom for a shower. The second I stepped inside, my entire body froze.
Behind the shower curtain, I could clearly see the outline of someone moving.
My heart started pounding so hard I could barely breathe. I slowly backed away, trying to convince myself I was imagining it. Then I shouted for Matt.
Before he could answer, the shower curtain suddenly flew open.
A man I had never seen before stepped out of our shower completely calm while I stood there screaming in terror.
I ran into the living room barely able to speak.
“There’s someone in our bathroom!”
The moment Matt realized I wasn’t joking, his face went pale. He grabbed my arm and rushed me toward the door.
“Get to the car. Lock the doors. Call 911 NOW.”
Within seconds, our normal evening turned into a nightmare. Standing outside shaking with fear, we realized someone had entered our home without us ever noticing.
And from that moment on, we never looked at home safety the same way again.
