The Secret Message on My Receipt That Saved Me

I accidentally left my receipt at a self-checkout machine. A woman hurried after me, handed it back with a smile, and softly said, “You dropped this.”
I thanked her, tossed the receipt into my bag, and went home without thinking twice.
But while unpacking groceries, I noticed something strange scribbled on the back:
“Check your car trunk.”
My stomach dropped.
I grabbed my phone and flashlight and walked back outside, heart pounding the entire way. Slowly, I opened the trunk… and froze.
Sitting behind my grocery bags was a black backpack I had never seen before.
I backed away immediately and called the police.
When officers searched the bag, they found stolen jewelry, wallets, and IDs belonging to multiple people. They explained that a theft ring had been hiding stolen items inside random cars in crowded parking lots so they wouldn’t get caught carrying evidence.
The mysterious woman had apparently seen someone slip the backpack into my trunk — and instead of confronting them directly, she warned me the safest way she could.
Because of her quick thinking, police tracked down the group and returned the stolen belongings to their owners.
I never saw that woman again.
But now, every time someone hands me a receipt, I always check the back before throwing it away.
