My Friend’s Husband Has a Crush on Me—She Accused Me of “Looking Hot”

We went out for dinner as a group—seven of us total, including my friend Natalie and her husband, Eric. It was supposed to be a fun night. I wore a fitted black dress, did my makeup, and honestly felt confident for the first time in months.
A few hours after I got home, Natalie texted me.
“I’m upset. You were trying way too hard tonight. You knew Eric would notice you.”
I stared at the screen in disbelief. I replied carefully:
“I’m sorry you feel that way, but I don’t think it’s fair to blame me for how your husband reacts.”
Five minutes later, someone knocked on my door.
It was Natalie.
Her eyes were red from crying, but she wasn’t angry anymore. She walked in quietly and finally admitted the truth: Eric had been distant for months. Earlier that evening, after they got home, he confessed he found me attractive.
But then she said something that broke my heart.
“He notices you because you still smile,” she whispered. “I don’t even recognize myself anymore.”
In that moment, this stopped being about jealousy.
It was about insecurity, loneliness, and a marriage already falling apart long before I walked into that restaurant.
I hugged her, and for the first time that night, she cried without pretending to hate me.
