He Made His Wife Pay for His Friends — I Made Him Regret It

I’ve been a waitress at a fancy downtown restaurant for ten years, but nothing shocked me like the night Jack walked in with eight loud friends and expected his wife, Lora, to pay their $800+ bill. They used to be a sweet couple, but over time things changed. Jack ordered expensive meals and drinks while Lora quietly picked up the tab, looking more exhausted every visit.

That night, Lora arrived late and clearly worn out. Jack barely looked at her before continuing to order like royalty. When the bill arrived, she finally said no. Jack laughed and pushed it toward her anyway. Moments later, she rushed to the restroom. Passing by, I heard her crying on the phone, angry and overwhelmed that she earned more than Jack yet was always expected to fund his nights out.

I couldn’t ignore it. I approached her with a quick plan. When she returned, she would pretend to get an urgent call and leave.

She agreed.

I then told Jack there had been a reservation mistake and the table was double-booked. At that moment, Lora stood up, “remembered” an important meeting, and walked out.

Jack sat there stunned. One by one, his friends made excuses and disappeared, leaving him alone with the bill.

The next day Lora returned to thank me, slipping me $100 and saying I hadn’t just saved her money — I gave her the courage to finally walk away.
