My Friend Always Forgot Her Wallet, So I Taught Her a Lesson She Won’t Forget

So, I had this friend — let’s call her “M.” She was fun, outgoing, and the life of every party. But there was one small problem: she never paid for anything.

At first, I didn’t mind. Friends cover for each other sometimes, right? But soon it became a pattern. Dinner? “Oops, I left my wallet.” Coffee? “Can you get this one? I’ll send it later.” Spoiler: she never did. Out of curiosity, I started keeping track — and she owed me over $500 in “small things.”

The breaking point came during a group dinner. She ordered lobster, dessert, and two cocktails — living her best life. When the bill arrived, she did her usual move: slid it toward me and said, “You’ve got this, right? You always do.”

The table went quiet. Everyone expected me to laugh it off. But this time, I didn’t.

I looked at her and said, “Actually, no. Since you still owe me for the last five times, this one’s on you.”

Her face turned bright red. She mumbled something about going to the ATM, grabbed her bag, and left — and never came back. We haven’t spoken since.

Honestly? Good riddance. Real friends don’t leave you holding the bill — in restaurants or in life.
