When Australian filmmaker Jamie Perkins married South Sudanese–Australian model Nikki Thot, their love story captured global attention. Together, they built a family, a massive online following, and what appeared to be a modern fairytale. Behind the scenes, however, their relationship was far more complex.
The couple met in 2009 on MySpace—Nikki was a 19-year-old IMG model in New York, while Jamie, 25, worked in cinematography. They married in March 2010 and later welcomed two daughters, Ava (2016) and Zoe (2018).
Their rise to fame began with Jamie’s viral proposal, played on a giant screen at Melbourne’s Federation Square. The video gained millions of views, followed by a hugely successful wedding video and a popular family YouTube channel.
