My Pregnant DIL Refused to Return My Mom’s Diamond Necklace, So I Made Sure She Paid the Price

I’m using a throwaway because family might see this. A few months ago, my daughter-in-law, eight months pregnant, asked to borrow my late mother’s diamond necklace for a maternity photoshoot. It’s not just jewelry—it’s one of the last pieces I have of my mom.

I hesitated but agreed after she promised to return it right after. The photos turned out beautiful, and I was happy for her. But when I asked for the necklace back, she kept delaying—“soon,” “next time,” always something.

Last week, I finally went over and asked directly. She came back with an empty jewelry box and casually told me she had lent my necklace to her sister for a wedding.

I was stunned. She gave away my mother’s heirloom without asking me, as if it were hers.

I didn’t argue. I left calmly, but inside I was shaken. That same day, I called my lawyer and changed my will, removing both my son and DIL.

Now I’m conflicted. Part of me feels justified—her entitlement crossed a serious line. But another part wonders if I acted too harshly without even confronting them.
