I Refused to Let Anyone Steal What My Dad Left Me, and My Mom Made It Worse

I’m “Mia” (17F). When I was 6, my dad died of cancer. The last thing he gave me was a gold necklace with a small sapphire—my only physical memory of him. I kept it safe for 11 years.

My mom remarried, and her stepdaughters often treated my room like their own. Last week, I came home and the necklace was gone. I found one of them wearing it. Later, when I got it back, I knew instantly it wasn’t the same. It felt wrong.

A jeweler confirmed it—it was a cheap replica.

My mom had sold my dad’s necklace and replaced it, thinking I wouldn’t notice.

I confronted her, and everything exploded. She cried, said we’re “a family now,” and claimed my dad would’ve wanted me to help. Mark defended his daughter and threatened to ground me.

I left and moved in with my aunt. Now my mom says I’m destroying the family over “a piece of metal,” while others say I should just move on.

But to me, it was never just jewelry—it was my dad.
