My Brother Has No Kids but Refuses to Share His Inheritance With Mine—I’m Furious

My mom passed away, and my brother and I each inherited $90K. He saved his share, but I spent mine within months caring for my five kids.

When the money ran out, I called him and demanded half of his, saying my kids needed it more. He hung up and cut contact. I was furious, especially with school fees piling up, and in frustration, I told my kids their uncle refused to help.

Two weeks later, my oldest came home with an envelope. Inside was a letter: my brother had set up college funds—$15K for each child, totaling $75K. The money was locked until they go to college and managed by a trustee, with no access for me.

My kids were overjoyed. I was crushed.

He hadn’t refused to help—he had protected their future. Meanwhile, I had spent everything on short-term needs.

Now my daughter is asking why I called him selfish when he gave them so much. I have no answer.

I feel like I failed—as a mother and a sister—and I don’t know how to fix it.
