I Lied to My Husband and Now He’s Taking It Out on My Daughter

Four years ago, I received a promotion that doubled my salary. I never told my husband because I wanted to quietly save the extra money for my daughter Sarah’s college education. She’s now 16, and since her biological father isn’t involved in her life, I’ve always felt that providing for her future is solely my responsibility.

Recently, my husband discovered that I had been earning more money all these years. Instead of understanding my intentions, he became furious and demanded that I repay him for every year he had been covering the rent on his own. I refused because the money I saved was meant for Sarah’s future.

Yesterday, things took an even more shocking turn. I heard Sarah scream from her room and rushed in to find that her closet was half empty. Most of her clothes, beauty products, and belongings—items that had been purchased with her stepfather’s money—were gone. My husband had taken them and left behind a cruel note that said, “Ask your mom to buy you things; she can afford it now!”

I’m heartbroken and confused about what to do next. Situations like this require calm communication, clear financial planning, and possibly professional help. Seeking mediation, legal advice, or family counseling could help protect your daughter’s well-being while addressing the conflict in your marriage.
