My DIL Treated My Home Like a Free Restaurant — Until I Finally Taught Her a Harsh Lesson

My grandkids, 7 and 9, come to my house every day after school. Since my daughter-in-law doesn’t cook, they usually eat lunch with me until she picks them up after work. She insists everything be gluten-free and even gives me a weekly menu telling me exactly what to prepare.

At first, I didn’t mind. I love my grandkids. But after six months, it started to feel like I was running a free restaurant in my own home.

Then today she stormed in, furious, saying the kids were sick and yelling, “Watch your hygiene when you cook for my children!”

I simply smiled and told her the truth: for the past two weeks, I hadn’t been cooking at all. I’d been ordering food from the exact same gluten-free restaurant she always uses.

Her face went pale.

I told her, “If they’re sick, maybe it came from your favorite restaurant. I’m tired of adjusting to your demands. I don’t work for you.”

She walked out without another word.

Now she refuses to bring the kids over anymore. Later that evening, my son called to scold me, saying, “What kind of grandma are you? You have nothing else to do all day.”

I love my grandkids deeply. But for the first time, I chose my own comfort.

Was I wrong?
