My Husband Left Every Saturday at 7 AM to Coach His Late Friend’s 8-Year-Old Son – but When the Boy Slipped Me a Note, I Dropped to My Knees

Six months after his best friend David died, my husband Mark became a devoted presence in David’s son Leo’s life. Every Saturday was baseball, burgers, and “guy time.” Everyone called him a saint. I believed it too — until Leo handed me a crumpled note and whispered, “Mark lies. You should read this.”
He’d taken the note from his father’s casket before it was buried.
It began: “David, I need you to take this secret to the grave with you… I love Sarah. I always have.”
Mark had confessed his love for David’s wife and promised to “step in” now that David was gone.
Leo told me Mark got angry when Sarah didn’t answer his texts. That he made a “scary face.”
I drove Leo home and showed Sarah the note. She went pale. “He’s never coming near my son again,” she said.
When I confronted Mark, he insisted he’d never crossed a physical line. But he had. He used a grieving child to stay close to a vulnerable widow.
“I already told Sarah,” I said.
He exploded — not because he’d hurt me, but because he’d lost her.
That’s when I knew.
“I’m leaving you,” I told him.
And for the first time in months, I could breathe.
