I’m Childfree, I Left My Legacy to My Nephew, My Stepson Is Furious

I’m 65 and never had children of my own, but I raised my stepson from the time he was 8. I also have a nephew I rarely see, and for years I planned to leave him my inheritance — mainly a four-bedroom family home that once belonged to my grandparents.
That house means everything to me. It’s been in my blood family for generations, and I always believed it should stay that way. When my stepson found out, he exploded. He shouted, “I considered you my mom! This is how you treat me?” In the heat of the moment, I replied, “Sorry, blood comes first.”
I wasn’t prepared for his response. He looked me straight in the eye and said I was no longer welcome in his family’s life. “Since we’re not blood, stay away from my family,” he said coldly.
That broke me. I adore his two young children, ages 2 and 4. They feel like the grandchildren I never had, and losing them feels unbearable. Still, I stayed silent and didn’t change my decision.
Then everything got worse. A few days later, my nephew visited and casually mentioned that once he inherits the house, he plans to sell it to fund a business venture. I was horrified — the entire reason I chose him was to preserve our family legacy.
Now my stepson won’t speak to me, my husband says I was unfair to his son, and the person I trusted to protect the house wants to get rid of it. I feel like I’ve lost my family, my peace, and the future I thought I was securing.
