A Message Hidden on a Grocery Receipt

I was halfway out of the store when a woman caught up to me, waving my receipt. “You dropped this,” she said with a smile. I thanked her and didn’t think about it again.
That night, while unpacking groceries, I noticed something written on the back of the receipt:
“Check your back seat.”
My heart jumped.
I went outside, opened my car, and froze. There, tucked neatly in the back seat, was my wallet—the one I’d been panicking over earlier that day.
She must have seen it while I loaded my groceries and couldn’t catch me in time, so she left a note instead.
The relief was instant, but the gratitude lingered. In a world that often feels rushed and indifferent, a stranger took a moment to care—quietly, without expecting thanks.
It reminded me that kindness doesn’t need an audience.
Sometimes, it’s written on the back of a receipt.
