Meeting My Girlfriend’s Family for the First Time — A $400 Bill Exposed Their True Colors

I’m 27 and I’ve never been lucky in love. Most of my dating history is a trail of short conversations and quiet goodbyes. So when I matched with her and we instantly clicked, it felt unreal.
The dates were easy. The laughs were real. When I asked her to be my girlfriend, she said yes. Then she suggested I meet her family. I took it as a good sign.
She hinted more than once that it would impress them if I paid for dinner. I assumed it would be her parents. Maybe a slightly awkward meal.
I was wrong.
When we arrived, her entire extended family was already there. A long table. Cousins. An aunt. An uncle. Everyone turned to look at me like I was walking into an audition.
No one spoke to me. No questions. No small talk.
Once seated, they ordered the most expensive steaks, premium seafood, extra sides, and bottles instead of glasses. I tried catching my girlfriend’s eye, silently asking her to stop. She didn’t.
When the bill arrived, it was $400. She looked at me like this was always the plan.
When I refused to pay for everyone, her expression turned cold. The table went silent.
That’s when a waiter slipped me a folded note: “She’s not who she says she is.”
In the bathroom, he told me he’d seen her do this before. Different men. Same routine.
I paid my part and left through the side exit.
For once, I walked away before it cost me more than money.
