My Husband Showed Up with a Cast on His Leg the Day Before Our First Family Vacation – Then I Got a Call That Changed Everything

The night before our first real family vacation, my husband came home on crutches with his leg in a cast. He said a woman had hit him with her car. I panicked, cried, and offered to cancel the trip. He insisted I take the twins anyway. “You and the girls need this,” he said.
So we went.
At the hotel, I tried to relax while the girls splashed in the pool. Then an unknown number called.
A woman’s voice said quietly, “Your husband asked me to sell him a fake leg cast so he wouldn’t have to go on vacation. You need to go home. What he’s hiding will shock you.”
I packed immediately.
When we pulled into the driveway that evening, a delivery truck was pulling away. Inside, the hallway was packed with boxes: a massive TV, a media console, a mini fridge, an oversized armchair.
Then I saw my husband carrying a box — walking easily. No crutches. No limp.
The cast was fake.
He admitted he’d lied so he could stay home and build himself a private “escape space.” He’d spent thousands without telling me.
I took photos and sent them to our family group chat. Then I took my daughters and left.
Later, the woman called again. She worked at a medical supply store. He’d bragged about sending “the wife and kids away” so he could finally get some peace.
That’s when I understood.
He didn’t need a break.
He needed an exit.
